The Jefferson West High School Girls Basketball team is headed to the 2nd leg of Sub-State playoffs! They play the Hiawatha Red Hawks in Royal Valley (Hoyt) this Friday, March 1st. Tip-off is 6pm. To help keep the winning momentum going, Jefferson West Students, we want to PACK THE HOUSE! To help accomplish this, a group of community members is providing FREE admission to the game for Jefferson West students, K-12. TIGER ROAR!!! #HeedtheRoar

Tuesday, March 5th, is Family Wellness Night. The location has been changed to the High School. The High School group, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), has been working with our District Nurse, Abby Martin, and the Wellness Committee to bring a special presentation to our community. Students, parents, staff, and all community members are welcome to attend. See the flyer below for more information.

The Meriden/Ozawkie Chamber of Commerce will once again have their annual Pancake Feed on Saturday, March 2, 7-11am at Jefferson West Elementary School. This is one of the Chamber's most important fundraisers for Jefferson West Graduate scholarships. Support our local students by attending the Pancake Feed and catching up with our community members!

Nine Jefferson West High School Juniors are part of a group traveling to Germany in May, through the exchange program with our sister school in Bebra, Germany. Besides selling Cashmere Popcorn and Dutch Mill Bulbs (more info later), the group is also serving a meal at Wellness Night, March 5th. On March 7th, they are sponsoring the opportunity of a Self Defense class with Mr. Chuck Haggard. Mr. Haggard will not be demonstrating or teaching about ALL his skills, but this will be a knowledge-filled session for those ready and willing to learn some self-protection guidelines. The registration fee of $20 per person goes directly to the students traveling to Bebra, Germany. We would love to see this class filled! CONGRATULATIONS TO JWEF GRANT RECIPIENTS!! The Jefferson West Education Foundation recognized this year's grant recipients during halftime of the Varsity Boys basketball game on Tuesday, February 13th. Mrs. Noel (Tier Math) - received a grant to go towards Math Intervention Resources. Mrs. Hypse and Mrs. Wuellner (1st Grade) - received a grant to use towards 1st Grade Resources. Mrs. Lloyd and Mrs. Bevitt (Library & Art) - received a grant for the Spring Art Show and Book Fair. #HeedtheRoar

Jeff West Families, Staff, and Students, I’m pleased to share that the USD 340 Board of Education on Monday evening voted 7-0 to hire Brad Neuenswander as the new superintendent for our district. He has been a welcome addition since November and has enjoyed getting to know all of you. While serving as interim superintendent, he’s already started thinking long-term and establishing an exciting vision for the future. His hire is a grand slam for continued positive momentum for the district. First up his focus will be on long-term planning, finding an education solution for the district’s at-risk preschoolers, and working through facilities challenges. Dr. Neuenswander is a problem solver who previously worked as a superintendent in district about our size, 2A Ellis USD 388, (1998 –2001) and 3A Cheney USD 268 (2001 –2007). Dr. Neuenswander and his wife have long-established roots in our community, having lived in Ozawkie for 17 years. Tiger pride runs deep in their family; both their children graduated from Jefferson West schools. Dr. Neuenswander will leave his role as founding director of the Center for Evaluation and Educational Leadership (CEEL) at the University of Kansas. In that capacity, he focused on leading school districts through a comprehensive needs assessment process and strategic planning. His resume couldn’t be any more suited to leading our district. He has been a classroom teacher, building principal, superintendent of schools, director of school finance for Kansas, and Deputy Commissioner of Education at the Kansas State Department of Education. He also served as the interim Commissioner of Education at the state department of education. Other experiences include two tours of the state of Kansas learning about Kansans’ desires for educational outcomes, which led to a state strategic plan for student success. He led the development of a new school district accreditation process for the state and has also served at the national level on various projects, including as the chair for the Council of Chief State School Officers Deputy Commissioners.
