Jr. Cheer Night
Happy Thanksgiving Greetings, Jefferson West Families and Community: We hope this message finds you well! As we approach the Thanksgiving Break, we have been thinking about and are so thankful for the many successes of our students during this school year. They continue to make us so proud because of their focus, dedication, work ethic, and resiliency. In this season of reflection and gratitude, we wanted to take a moment to simply and sincerely say “Thank You!” for everything you have done, are doing, and will continue to do to help and support your children, our teachers, and our school community. As a service to our families and staff, we will provide a special covid test clinic for anyone that would like to get a covid test before Thanksgiving. This special covid test clinic will be held on Wednesday morning, November 24, 2021, from 7 AM to 9 AM at Jefferson West Elementary School in the school gym. We hope that you and your family have a safe, enjoyable, and restful break. Sincerely, Pat Happer, Rhonda Frakes, Brandan Giltner, Brenna Dooley, Wes Sturgeon, and Abby Martin

Halloween Parade Update ES Families, This is an update about the Halloween parade. Please send your student to school in their costume RAIN or SHINE. If the predicted bad weather moves out, we will parade West down Main to the Post Office as planned at 8:20. If the weather has not moved out, we will have the kids parade through the gym. I am sorry, but at this time, due to COVID, we are unable to open our building to guests. We will broadcast it on FaceBook Live @ Jeff West ES. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100013545077537 We will plan to begin at 8:20 also. Reminder: Treats must be store bought and not opened to decorate prior to the party. In accordance with school policies, we will follow the guidelines of: NO replica weapons: firearms, knives, swords, chains, clubs, pitchforks, lightsabers or anything that could be used as a weapon. No rollerblades, skates, skateboards or bicycles. No pets or live animals are allowed. Thank you for your cooperation to continue this JWES tradition! Mr. Sturgeon

10-13-21 Dear Families, It is almost that time of year again...Halloween Parade time that is. This year has once again presented several new challenges, but it is our goal to have as much “normal” as safely as we can at the ES. As you know, we are still closed to volunteers and to the public coming into the ES. With that protocol still in place, it makes helping your students dress for the Halloween parade a little challenging. So in the name of creativity, and to keep tradition going, we are moving the parade to 8:20 AM on Wednesday, October 27th. (Same day...new time) Please send your child to school dressed in their costume with their school clothes on under their costume. I might suggest a simpler costume this year, as they will need to ride the bus, eat breakfast, and walk the halls while dressed in costume that morning. Families, you may also want to consider bringing your child to school, parking on Main street, and helping them get their final costume items on, then walk them to the front door. Due to COVID guidelines, parents will not be allowed in the building to dress your child. Keep in mind the morning temperature may be lower than when we usually do the parade so dress your child accordingly. Working together and following these adjustments, we will be able to have the parade and not have to cancel like last year. At the conclusion of the parade, parents or guardians will be able to meet your child on the playground at designated grade level locations and gather any accessories to the costume you do not want lost. Students will be able to change clothes inside on their own. Once again, a simpler costume this year might be best. This is the best way we see to have the parade and keep our school safe and open. Please see below for the costume guidelines. Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation to keep this tradition going in a safe way. Costume and other guidelines Class parties will still happen. The time will be at the teachers’ discretion, so watch for notes home from them about that. Like birthdays, treats must be store bought and not opened to decorate prior to the party. Treats may be sent with your child or dropped off at the school and we will deliver them to the room. This year, please keep costumes simple and warm...the parade will go West down main from the ES to the post office, turn and come back to the ES. We will monitor the temperature and in case of extreme cold, rain, or windchill I will cancel via a Skylert call/email/text by 7:15 THAT MORNING. (Is your information with us up to date and has texting been unblocked in Skyward?) In accordance with school policies, we will follow the guidelines of NO replica weapons: firearms, knives, swords, chains, clubs, pitchforks, lightsabers or anything that could be used as a weapon. No rollerblades, skates, skateboards or bicycles. No pets or live animals are allowed. Thank you for your cooperation to continue this JWES tradition! Mr. Sturgeon

Hello Tiger Families, This note is about the upcoming Elementary Parents’ Night. It is still planned for this coming Tuesday, August 31st. However, we are adjusting it to be safe for everyone. As this activity usually involves a large number of people, including the kids in childcare, which would not be provided this year due to COVID, and with an eye toward safety, this year’s Parents’ Night will be via Zoom again. Your teacher will be sending you a zoom link soon. We will be offering one session. 6:00pm-6:30pm and the teachers will record their session and will share that link out or post to Schoology to watch later, or parents can use two devices and both watch separately for each child’s teacher. As always, parents are encouraged to contact the child’s teacher anytime with questions. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. This will help keep our students and staff safe and healthy so we can keep our school open. Thank you, Mr. Sturgeon

READY! SET! GO! Here we go Tiger families....the first day of school is here and we are ready!  Below please find a few reminders First...we will NOT have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for an option at lunch until Sept 1st. Once again this year, to keep our building as safe as possible, we are not allowing volunteers or visitors for non educational reasons in the building.  EXCEPT...tomorrow only, Kindergarten parents may escort their student to the gym until we dismiss for class.  The kindergarten teachers will be there to meet you and your child.  When dropping off or picking up your child, please stop on top of the BIG numbers and unload from the passenger side.  Please do not park between the cones in the crosswalk. To avoid being tardy, your child must be IN the school not in the parking lot by 8:00am. Our front door will be locked at 8:00am and if you are later than that, you will need to exit your vehicle and sign your child in at the front window. (We will have a grace period for a few days to allow you to get your routine set up.)  AND....birthday treats still must be store bought, but DO NOT have to be individually wrapped, but can be if you like...so hooray for cupcakes!  The teachers will use gloves and pass them out.  As always, check the student handbook you received at Back to School Night for more details or call with any questions.  Thank you for your support...we are looking forward to a great year! GO TIGERS!
